February 2003 Newsletter for the Parishes of

HOLLESLEY ALL SAINTS' & BOYTON with CAPEL
ST ANDREW

From Hillside,

" ...may we who have received these gifts beyond words,
prepare to meet Christ Jesus when he comes to bring us eternal life."

(Post Communion for the Presentation in the Temple)

Did you make any New Year resolutions? How are they holding up? I guess there are good days and bad days. I decided to try to be more tolerant, and now is the time to decide whether to give up and return to last years bad habits, or to make a conscious effort to improve my image.

Within the church tradition 2nd February is also a turning point. We can look back to the joy of Jesus birth, a joy for all people. Or we can look forward through the crucifixion to the resurrection, through the sorrow and pain to the light and joy of the risen Lord. Which way will you look? Your friend, Judith.

HOLLESLEY VILLAGE PRAYER GROUP

Following the passing of our dear Connie in whose home the Village Prayer Group met for many years, we now to re-think our arrangements. At a gathering held on 7th January 2003 it was decided that the Prayer Group would meet at 7.30pm on the 2nd Monday of each month. The venue would be the home of Helen and John Macleod at Corner House, Hollesley ie the pink house at the junction of Alderton Road with Bushey Lane. The first meeting would be on

Monday 10th February at 7.30pm

These meetings, which would not last more than an hour, would involve a word of sharing by one of our members, some music, and prayers for specific village needs and people. As previously, this is an ecumenical group and everyone, who believes in the power of prayer is welcome. It was further agreed to have a village Prayer Chain, i.e. between meetings, members of the Group would pray for anyone who wished it. Whoever received the request would pass it on to the next member. Complete confidence would of course be observed by everyone in the Prayer Group. The initial points of contact for the Prayer Chain would be: Judith Andrews Tel. 01394 411642 and Helen and John Macleod Tel 01394 411232.

Anyone who would like to join us is most welcome. John Macleod

BOYTON CHURCH NEWS

The year 2002 proved to be a better year to the Church, particularly the increases in attendance, which was very encouraging, which has meant we can contribute to the expenses of our Vicar. We would like to thank everyone who helped in any way with the running of the Church and the maintenance of the Churchyard.

The Village Hall, owned by the Church, is also a considerable responsibility and requires some urgent attention. The Village Fete funds go partially to the maintenance of the Hall but this takes up much of the reserves and it really needs a separate team to look after it.

The impromptu carols at the Mary Warner Homes before Christmas were great fun and set the atmosphere - thanks to Joe leading us.

Please contact Fred Stentiford or Isobel Lilley with any suggestions for the future.

HARVEST

Apparently, if confectioners do not order their chocolates in January for the following Christmas their delivery cannot be guaranteed. Last year we collected old and unwanted tools to send, via Tools with a Mission (TWAN). I wonder if anyone has any ideas for this year. Here is something for you to consider as you tackle the spring-cleaning. It seems to me that it is better to support a needy cause and so benefit others less fortunate than ourselves.

Ring Judith Andrews Tel. 01394 411642 with your thoughts.
